Structural Analysis + Hull Design
Structural Analysis + Hull Design Co-Captains
Jaelin Murray Nathaniel Harrison |
The structural analysis and hull design sub-team design the hull shape and size in order to minimize weight, create a maneuverable canoe, and optimize speed for each type of race. The team also uses structural analysis to inform design of the concrete mix and tensionary devices. Using fluid dynamics, shear and moment calculations they work to calculate the physical capabilities of our canoe in order to ensure a successful project.

Tasks
- Collaborate with the concrete mix design to inform design and to collectively design a primary and secondary tensionary device for the canoe
- Use AutoCAD to industry standards for the canoe mold
- Cooperate with PMs on the goals for the canoe this year.
- Explain the structural capabilities of the canoe given information mix design finds from testing and
- Ensure that the canoe should work through calculation on each hull design and concrete mix re-design.
- Preform buoyancy calculations under different
- Find the factors that influence canoe performance and their importance to the overall competition.
- Research the rebar and concrete material capabilities
- Preform fluid dynamic analysis on the hull shape
- Create shear and moment diagrams for different loading situations.
- Communicate with rowing team to ensure proper understanding of canoe's capabilities
