What is Concrete Canoe?Concrete Canoe is an annual competition held by the American Society of Civil Engineers. It is a team project dedicated to designing and constructing a canoe made out of concrete, in accordance with an aesthetic theme of each school's choosing. Students integrate engineering concepts that are acquired academically and apply it through a hands-on approach. Not only do students put their critical thinking and creative problem solving skills to the test, they also get to enjoy racing their canoes head to head at the Pacific South West Symposium (PSWS). Ultimately, students get to engage with civil engineering in various ways, ranging from project management, structural analysis, concrete mixtures, reinforced concrete, safety compliance, and presentation skills, which are directly beneficial to their immediate and future careers.
